The Del Ray Montessori School is a non-profit Montessori School located in the quaint Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, Virginia, we are associated and recognized by AMI/USA (Association Montessori International). Founded in 2011, we serve children ages 18 months through age 12 and their families in the DC metropolitan area.

A Washington, DC, native, Sarah attended Montessori schools as a child, which inspired her love of learning and her return to Montessori as an educator.
Sarah earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre from New York University. She holds an AMI Elementary Diploma from Montessori Northwest and a Master of Education from Whitworth University.
She brings more than 15 years of experience in education and has worked at Christian Family Montessori School and Breakthrough Montessori Public Charter School. She is Orton-Gillingham trained and has experience supporting early literacy intervention, implementing Special Education IEPs, and supporting children with a wide range of learning needs. Sarah has an extensive background in social-emotional learning through her training in Positive Discipline and her work as Program Director for Little Friends for Peace.
Sarah is inspired by the Elementary Montessori curriculum and its emphasis on Cosmic Education. She loves learning alongside her students as they explore the wonder and awe of the universe. She believes children thrive when challenged with rigorous, purposeful learning in an environment that nurtures relationships, curiosity, independence, and the whole child.
Outside the classroom, Sarah enjoys creating art, exploring theater, traveling, curling up with a good book, and relaxing at home with her two cats. She looks forward to sharing the joys of the Montessori elementary program with the Flowering Dogwood classroom.
